Folding with the grain produces a smooth, clean crease. Folding against the grain produces roughness, fiber separation, or coating cracks.
The procedure:
Cut two 10×10 cm test squares from the sheet
Fold the first square in half (don’t score, just fold)
Run your fingernail firmly along the fold to crease it
Unfold and inspect the crease line
Rotate the second square 90° and repeat
The fold with NO white stress lines or roughness = grain direction
